When I was a child I spent a great deal of time waiting for a Father who was not there. He was literally an ocean away for most of my young life.
There was no email, or facetime, no facebook, or Instagram to keep us close, just international phone calls and old fashioned letters.
As tough as being a ocean away from someone you love was then, there are children being raised with a father right beside them with a far worse problem.
We are raising a generations of sons and daughters with fathers who are right beside them, but are an ocean away.
Using the very tools meant to connect us, to be anywhere but present, to be consumed by work, and convenience, to be connected to a device rather than a young life.
Today, right now as you read this, imagine being separated from the ones you love by a vast ocean. Unable to see them, hear them, or embrace them. Think about the time lost, the little inside jokes missed, those little moments that make the big memories, being their to hold the for the little scratches, the tiny bruises, and protecting them from those shadows in their room at bedtime……today is a great day for a homecoming, for a reunion of connection. A day for your phone to be an ocean away right beside you.
