“United we stand, divided we fall.” These words, and words like them, have been spoken time and time again by politicians, songwriters, and philosophers for generations. As you look at our history though we seem to have anything but a united front. That we have a track record of division.
Separating ourselves by the arbitrary, dividing ourselves by the non-essential only serves to weaken us all, to create bias, and hate for the very diversity that makes us strong, promotes growth and understanding, for the very things that make us human.
Our differences….in opinion, in appearance, in thought should be what draws us together, sparks conversation, and learning. Have we not burned enough crosses, tattooed enough numbers on forearms, sewn enough “scarlet letters’ to last us a lifetime, or at least enough to earn us a reprieve for just a generation?
United we stand, together we grow, combined we can become what we were uniquely, and purposefully designed to be……
